Why Lokin?

As two college students and employees, we found it difficult to focus on the important things, even though they mattered to us. The feeling of guilt and defeat after spending hours mindlessly scrolling instead of working towards our goals is what pushed us to create Lokin for ourselves and others.

What does the research say?

    Reports indicate that users spend an average of 2 hours and 24 minutes daily on social media platforms, with a significant portion of this time attributed to passive scrolling rather than active engagement.

    Many apps we have access to today are created to be addictive. A study examining TikTok usage found that users reported feeling compelled to continue scrolling, even when they recognized it as a waste of time.

  • Cellphones = lower cognitive ability

    Studies have shown that prolonged screen exposure can lead to cognitive overload, which negatively impacts attention and memory retention and can lead to lower academic performance and diminished cognitive skills.

  • Poor mental health

    Excessive screen time is often associated with negative mental health outcomes, including increased anxiety, depression, and feelings of isolation. Research also indicates that individuals who engage in mindless scrolling experience more guilt and lower well-being.

    Block websites and apps or the entire internet if you want to. With your distractions blocked, you can get into your workflow and stay on task.
